Dr. Danny ChouDr. Danny Chou

Dr Danny Chou is a gynaecologist specialising in advanced laparoscopic and da Vinci robotic surgery for complex benign gynaecological conditions. His interests and expertise include laparoscopic and robotic surgery for severe endometriosis, removal of large myoma (fibroid), difficult hysterectomy and complex pelvic floor surgery. Since 2011, Dr Chou has also been passionate about learning Neuropelveology, an exciting new pelvic surgical discipline dealing with diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting pelvic nerves with wide-ranging applications including nerve-sparing excision of endometriosis. Dr Chou had the privilege of being under the tutelage of Prof Marc Possover, the founder of the discipline, and has achieved the International Society of Neuropelveology Level 3 Certification.

Dr Chou has performed, as of June 2020, well over 4,000 cases of complex laparoscopic procedures including 1,800 laparoscopic hysterectomies, 1,500 laparoscopies for endometriosis of varying degree of severity, 400 cases of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexies, 200 cases of laparoscopic myomectomies and 350 cases of da Vinci robotic procedures including hysterectomy, myomectomy and sacrocolpopexy.

Dr Chou completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Royal North Shore Hospital and St George Hospital in Sydney, with an additional year at Salisbury Hospital in the UK. Before returning to Australia, he attained the European Diploma of Operative Endoscopy from Clermont-Ferrand, France. He then undertook two further fellowships in Advanced Gynaecological Laparoscopic Surgery over three years, two years at Sydney Women’s Endosurgery Centre (SWEC) and one year in London with exposure to laparoscopic oncology surgery.

Dr Chou is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales. He has been involved with clinical research and published over 50 scientific papers, including book chapters. Dr Chou’s team has presented widely around the world receiving numerous prestigious awards.

Dr Chou is a Director of SWEC, a training centre that has been conducting the Advanced Gynaecological Laparoscopic Workshop, the longest-running gynaecological laparoscopic workshop in Australia since 1996. The centre has also trained through its Fellowship Program numerous Fellows from around world including some of the leading gynaecological surgeons nationally and globally. Dr Chou has been invited to lecture, teach at surgical workshop and perform live surgical demonstrations at national and international meetings including in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Zurich, UK, Canada and USA.
